We’re excited to announce the launch of the 4th annual AFS Project: Change contest!
From now until December 18, 2017, students in grades 8-12 are invited to submit an idea for a volunteer project addressing a contemporary global issue in one of seven countries. The Grand Prize winner will travel abroad this summer on a 10-15 day program to put their vision into action on a Global Prep program custom-designed around their project idea. Additional winners will receive full scholarships to join the winning project.
Project: Change has been a great tool to get students thinking about going abroad and making an impact in the world. It’s also a good entry-point for reaching out to new schools for hosting or sending opportunities. (In fact, common core lesson plans are available for you to share with educators). Materials are being shipped to your local staff person and more resources are available on the Field Hub to help you promote Project: Change in your area.
Last year’s Grand Prize winner, Erin S., had the chance to go abroad with a group of her peers and empower children in Guatemala to make educated decisions about sustainability. This year, we’re looking forward to encouraging even more passionate students like her to explore contemporary global issues and come up with their own creative solutions.
I’m sure you know some young change-makers who would be eager to make their volunteer project ideas a reality with AFS. We encourage you to share this contest with any teens or parents in your network who might be interested.
More details about Project: Change, including a description of past years’ winning projects, can be found here.
